I should have waited to write post 100 . . .

So, last week when I wrote our 100th post I was disappointed that it was just a boring update on our lives and that we had nothing exciting to share. But now, in true Candice and Tom fashion, for our 101th post we have big news.

As hopefully all of you have heard, on Tuesday evening we got engaged! And, because everyone is anxious to hear “the story” and see some pictures, we got these up as soon as possible.

On Tuesday I had just gotten back from a brutal step class at the gym. I was sweaty and exhausted and hungry, so we ate supper right away. As per usual, after supper Tom went to the kitchen to make a cup of tea and I went to the stove to pick at the cooked on bits of supper from the pot. As the kettle boiled and I stuffed little pieces of polenta and bean cakes into my mouth Tom looked at me and said “I love you.” I glanced up at him for a second, replied with a quick “I love you too” and proceeded to pick at a particularly stubborn piece of polenta. Then he said, “Will you marry me?”

Of course I said “Yes!” Followed by, “are you serious?”

But, he was serious and had a beautiful ring which I later found out was Grandma’s original engagement ring. He had arranged the whole thing with her and Mom. Sneaky (and gutsy!).

I didn’t cry or faint, but I did sweat a lot. He asked if I wanted a cup of tea, to which I replied “No. No. ummm maybe. No. Yes.” Apparently life decisions are far easier than dietary ones. We had some tea, took a minute to soak everything in, and then started calling family to share our news. We finished the night by watching the Steve and Miranda get engaged/married episode.

We don’t have any exact plans for a wedding yet, it really depends on what is convenient for us school-wise and when our friends and family will be available. So far that seems to be either summer 2010, or summer 2011.

It’s been wonderful to be in touch with everyone in these past few days -to share our happiness and to catch up with what everyone has been up to lately. We’re really missing everyone, especially in these past few days, so do keep in touch!
